DEAR "murchin" AND "NoClaim" YOU NEED TO HAVE AN EXTERNAL FLOPY DISK (WITH USB CONECTION) FOR SURE SUCCED.
WHEN YOU GET THIS, YOU MUST DOWNLOAD (IN ANOTHER PC OF COURSE) THE "Crisis Recovery Disk" FROM http://www.rechner.org/b1800.html.
AFTER THIS YOU MUST HAVE THE ORIGINAL BIOS VERSION FOR YOUR LAPTOP FROM THE SHITE OF ACER. WHEN YOU DO THIS YOU MUST RENAME YOUR BIOS VERSION TO "bios.wph" AND COPY - PASTE IT TO THE "crisis recovery disk" DIRECTORY.
AFTER THIS YOU MUST RUN "wincrisis.exe" TO CREATE A "minidos crisis disk"
***OF COURSE ALL OF THIS MUST DO IN ANOTHER COMPUTER WHICH I PREFER TO BE A PC BECAUSE IT MORE EASY. AS YOU UNDERSTAND THE "crisis disk" IS A FLOPPY DISK , NO USB KEY OR CD OR USB MEMORY STICK***
WHEN YOU HAVE DONE ALL THIS YOU MUST q
1. UNPLUG THE BATTERY AND THE AC/DC CABLE
2. PLUG THE EXTERNAL FLOPPY DISK DRIVE TO YOUR LAPTOP, (WITH THE "crisis disk" IN IT)
3. HOLD KEYS [Fn]+[Esc]
4. DURING HOLDING THE KEYS PLUG THE AC/DC CABLE
5. PRESS THE POWER BUTTON
6. RELEASE THE KEYS [Fn]+[Esc] AT THIS STEP YOUR LAPTOP MUST BEGIN READ THE FLOPPY DISK AND YOU MUST WAIT ABOUT 1 OR 2 MINUTES. THEN IT WILL START BEEPING. YOU MUST WAIT AGAIN. THEN IT WILL RESTART AUTOMATICALLY AND .... PHOENIX ITS ALIVE AGAIN !!!!!! ***IF WILL NOT START BEEPING AFTER READ THE FLOPPY DISK YOU MUST TRY AGAIN AND PROCEED TO THE STEP No 7
7. AFTER SHORT TIME PRES ONE MORE TIME [Fn]+[Esc] (MAYBE YOU WILL NOT NEED TO DO THIS STEP)

MY FRIENDS YOU MUST BE PATIENT AND YOU MUST HAVE FAITH.
IF IT WILL NOT WORK WITH THE 1st TIME YOU MUST TRY THIS AGAIN AND AGAIN.
MAKE SURE THAT YOU USE THE ORIGINAL AND RIGHT BIOS VERSION FOR YOUR LAPTOP.

Hello kospalio,

I had a USB floppy drive with a crisis disk. I could only find my bios as .BIN file(from acer website), found another version that came as a .rom.(bios central i think)
Ran buildrom.bat which extracted 6 files(512k each), so i made 6 floppies with minidos, phlash16, bflash.bin and a BIOS.ROM on each disk. The first 2 did nothing but the third disk just killed my machine totally. I was under the impression the the BOOTBLOCK could not be overwritten with the crisis disk, but alas it has been and now it does nothing when the power button is pressed apart from a low volume high pitched whine is emitted from the case, no fans or leds come on, so i think it would now need the eprom removing and programming, or the mainboard replacing.

best of luck

Andy.

Hello,

Does one of these tricks work with my aspire 1603?
I got blank screen, no floppy seek, one cd seek and a blinking alimentation led at boot up.
Besides, does anyone know what is the best bios version for this laptop?

Thanks guys

HELLO KAKODAIMON,
I BELIEVE THAT MY ??? !!! Embarassed "TRICK" WORKS WITH YOUR ACER 1603 ONLY IF YOUR bios HAVE "WPH" EXTENSION LIKE "bios.wph" . Confused I AM NOT SURE IF THIS TRICK WORKS WHEN YOUR bios HAVE "BIN" OR OTHER EXTENSIONS AFTER ALL THOSE THAT "murchin" WROTE. Rolling Eyes Evil or Very Mad
FOR YOUR bios VERSION FOLLOW THIS PATH http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_1600.html

DEAR murchin ,
IF YOU ARE STILL WITH US I THINK THAT YOU HAVE DONE A BIG MISTAKE. I BELIEVE THAT YOU HAD TO WRITE minidos, phlash16, bflash.bin ONLY IN THE FIRST FLOPPY AND NOT TO ALL OF THEM, BECAUSE EVERY TIME YOU PUT A FLOPPY DISK IN THE DRIVER THE SYSTEM AUTOMATICALLY STARTED TO "FLASHING" THE BIOS FROM THE BEGIN.Shocked SO YOU KILLED YOUR LAPTOP. Sad
I AM NOT SURE FOR THIS BUT MAYBE THERE IS SOMEONE WHO KNOWS MORE ABOUT THIS. IS THERE SOMEONE OUT THERE ????? Neutral

With eternal gratitude for reviving my laptop thru this forum and help, I have some additional pointed that i realised while working on my laptop revival. Please see below note in bold and underline. Thank you!

5 days now I did all the above and all the key combinations.
Ext. USB floppy never start Confused
Are you sure that this way work also to an Acer Aspire 1603LM?

I have the crisis disk with the files on it but seems that
the floppy (USB) never start.
Always....beep !

Note: The problem does'nt start from a wrong bios update.
The laptop was on (without battery on it) and I found it "stuck" at the
XP screensaver.
After that...the beeps that acer tell "Bios Dead" and all the symptoms
that others users have here.

Thanks

DEAR grokos I AM NOT SO SURE THAT IT WORKS TO ALL ACER LAPTOPS BUT I HOPE IT. ARE YOU SURE THAT YOU DID ALL THE STEPS CORRECTLY ? IF YOU DID IT ALL, MAYBE YOUR EXTERNAL FLOPPY DRIVE IS NOT COBATTIBLE WITH YOUR LAPTOP. TRY IT AGAIN.

DEAR Last_Frontier TRY TO READ ALL THE MESSAGES IN THIS TOPIC AND I BELIEVE THAT YOU WILL HAVE THE RESULT YOU WANT.

Hi kospalio. In fact i did read carefully all the posts and i realized that my only option was to buy a usb floppy. Little less than the whole mb.

Grokos, In my case i had to unplug my hdd so the floppy start, but i don't think it is a rule, maybe u can try that. cheers

For one more time I try all key combinations (Fn+Esc,Ctrl+Esc,Winkey+B...etc) without result.
Now, with removed HDD,CD Crying or Very sad
I use a USB floppy from Dell Laptop that works on every PC that I've connected.
I try also all previous on each usb port (Aspire 1603 has 4 USB).

The LED of the USB Floppy never light up Crying or Very sad

This is what i did step by step.
Step 1: Unplugged the ac and removed the battery. (IMPORTANT)
Step 2: Unplugged the HDD. (Skip if already done)
Step 3: Connected the USB Floppy with crisys diskette
Step 4: Pressed the Fn+Esc combo, and kept pressing
Step 5: Plugged the AC and turned on the PC
Step 6: Released the keys combo and waited while he rebooted.

It worked for me after the first attempt, after i realized that I needed the Floppy. Give it one more try and report back. Cheers
