Hi! I have the same problem with Acer 5101AWLMi.
Windows hang up while flashing the BIOS.
I exactly followed your instructions but when I turn on the laptop there is no beep. It just starts reading the floppy for about a minute and then stops and nothing happens. No beep, no reboot, no happy end...
Any ideas?
Greetings
Julian

Discovered the problem with my laptop. One memory slot was u/s. Removed memory from one slot and HEY Presto! laptop boots.
Uograded bios from dos on USB stick and all OK.
Reinsert memory and again no boot.
Checked sodimm on other laptop and all fine. Think it unusual to have one faulty slot on board but hey it works. Doesn't seem much slower with 2gig as opposed to previous 4gig.

hello,
i have the same problem.. my notebook is an acer aspire 1400. i tried the key combinations Fn+b, Fn+Esc, Fn+c, Ctrl+Esc.. none of them work!
An interesting thing happened with Fn+b:
i pressed fn+b and plugged the power cable.. then pressed the power button while still pressing fn+b: three leds went on and stayed on even when releasing the keys!! the leds stay on even if the power button is not pressed...
however, i couldn't get it to work!! the floppy is never read!! i also tried with usb pen and it doesn't work!
is it possibile that for this model there is nothing to do?
if you have ideas please help me..

THANKs for EVERY BODY
I am talal and I AM FROM SYRIA
FIRST OF ALL
IF YOU FLASHED YOUR ATI ACER LAPTOP WITH INTEL VGA BIOS
OR VIS VERSA THEN YOUR BIOS NOT TOTALLY DEAD ! ONLY THE DISPLAY SECTION AND THE PROOF IS THAT YOU STILL ON AND OFF THE BLUETOOTH , CAPS LOCK, HDD BLINKING ...etc
so
there are twe methode were explained here: the crisis disk methode and the autoexec.bat method , second method depends on the explained fact above but not for dead bios. second methode working on " no display working bios"
the first one working with FN+ESC trick since the other one does not required such a thing , only right booting order and this can be accomplished by removing the hdd and cd room
any way, first methode did not work for me but the other one did!!!
last note : when u format a floppy disk with boot files option in xp
the autoexec is there only u need to apply the show protected system files under tools, this is same place where u enable the hidden files
after that just add the automation string line
i hope I helped as I have helped!!!

9. (ok now i mess you all up ) FORGET your ac power cable i didn't need it i DIDN'T REMOVE BATTERY i left it thereoriginal thread that helped me most -> http://www.wimsbios.com/phpBB2/topic10069.html
...
i dont see why you ppl use phlash16 thing i wasted all those hours with different methods while there was far more simple solution
good luck to all of you ppl i learned valuable lesson i wont mock blind ppl EVER and if i see one i'll sure as hell help him much as i can... |
You're the man!
Thanx, you're a genius!
I resurrect my Acer travelmate 6410 thanks to you.
I was very warried, bios f... up because I didn't stop the antivirus before flashing it, no beeps, a hundred tries with all the methods from this thread, usb stick, usb floppy , tried everything but no results, the floppy light didn't even light up once, but in the end I tried your solution, no AC power e just battery and your crisis disk with my bios renamed.
It didn't work, in fact since then my notebook didn't start at all, no more power on!
I was a little bit scaried but then I removed the battery , put the ac power back and this time the floppy lighted up and started reading.
The first time it didn't restart, I had to turn it off, but then i re tried with classical crisis disk, not yours, and it worked.
Without the battery attempt I would have never got throw, that's why I thank you a lot, even though you're a bit too sure of what you said, and also I have to inform you that the disk that your exe creates contains file phlash16 that you said was useless.
Many thanks to all you guys, it's been a thrilling experience.

Greetings and happy new year!
I own an Acer 6930G, whose bios i have locked with a password typed in greek character set ( via an application of windows that came with the laptop ) and since bios dowsn't have multilanguage support (...), i have been locked out of my laptop. Is there a way to bypass the password or flash the bios in some way? And if there is a way to flash the bios, where can i find the appropriate file? I have seen one on the ftp server of acer for 6930 but is this the one?
Thanks in advance and again, happy new year!

Hello, I am owner of new laptop Acer aspire 7730G. I messed up with bios(dead laptop with black screen) and I think I need to reflash it. Well I am willing to try that phoenix method.
I soon get my ancient flobby disk drive and I have ready the phoenix disc with 2 files: minidos,Plash16. I only need my bios.wph file. Where should I get it? Download normal bios file at the acers homepage. I already downloaded the newest bios file from there and I think I try a file ZY2_3611.WPH file and rename it to Bios.wph
Thats what I was doing but...The ZY2_3611.WPH was too big. 2megabytes so the orginal flobby disk won't work. Where can I get bios.WPH file suiting to my laptop?
Or should I try other methods. Help..Please

(im not answering the last post sorry dont know )
Here is the detailed instruction how to solve flash problems with any phönix bios:
1. geht the crisis recovery disk programm --> http://www.rechner.org/b1800.html
2. download the bios from your manufacturers webside:
be carefull to get the right one!
there are more than one in one version zip file:
for example "ZL9I3A24.zip" and "ZL9A3A24.zip" which one is yours?
the "i" stands for intel grafics chip and the "a" for ATI grafics chip.
choose the right one.
3. get an USB Floppy drive
USB sticks are not working
4. copy the yourbios.WPH from the downloaded bios to the crisis recovery directory and rename it to "BIOS.WPH"
use a floppy disc and run the programm.
once finished we come to the damaged computer:
first of all, simply open your dvd or cd rom drive, than unplug or uninstall the harddrive. so the bios will boot from the usb floppy.
put the battery out of laptop and unplug AC/DC cable
a. plug in the usb floppy with inserted crisis disk to the damaged pc
b. press FN+ESC or CTRL+ESC and hold it
c. plug in ac/dc cable and keep holding the buttons
d. push the start button and about 1 or 2 seconds later release the buttons
the pc should boot now from the floppy, if not redo step a to d.
it will work, its just about timing dont worry
e. the floppy works for about a minute pc will either freeze or restart.
if it freezes try pressing the button combination once or twice.
or restart manually with the power button. GIVE IT TIME.
maybe you must redo this several times, becouse its well...its alive. *end of sarcasm*
f. you should see the bios start screen than.
i have done this to my laptop acer 1640z and it worked the first time
this is working definately, but everything must be perfect so keep time preparing and reading instructions.
if it doesnt work first time, DO NOT WORRY.
it will work in time
your very thankfull for this forum,
Dieter from Austria.
