Post subject: BIOS Table Idea |
|
|
I was thinking that as information is gathered by these forums, it would be useful to produce a table viewable to forum users that lists, for the BIOSs that have not been patched by Wim's, any information known about hard drive, cpu, video and other issues, looking something maybe like the following:
Board ID | Latest Man. BIOS | HDD Limit | CPU Limit | VGA Problems | Other Problems
------------+---------------------+-------------+------------+--------------------+-------------------
| | | | |
| | | | |
| | | | |
| | | | |
where
BOARD: ID: Could be the ID string and/or man. and model name.
Latest Man BIOS: Could be the version number of the latest known BIOS, which the info for that entry on the table would be based on. Could also be a clickable link to the man. web site or download page. Could be latest official BIOS or latest beta (man.) BIOS.
HDD Limit: Largest disk supported.
CPU Limit: Latest CPUs supported.
VGA Problems: A summary of known vga cards with compatibility issues. Or a mention that the on-board vga cannot be disabled if this is the case.
Other problems: A summary of other known issues/problems.
Such information would probably be a handy reference guide for people looking to upgrade their BIOS and this table could be updated periodically as the use of this forum finds out new info about manufacturer BIOSs.

We could start to add per BIOS number a clickable link to show the extra information.
I'm still thinking a bit about the Latest. Man. BIOS: do you want it to link to an actual BIOS file. If so this may cause a lot of traffic if these are put locally on wimsbios.
What about unofficial BIOSses which have been patched for better HDD support etc?
Wim

You can always get a 25 euro account at aruba.it and store your bios files there... what do you think elhvb.com is running on with that 30GB mobokive mirror?
