Please I need help you guys, I want to upgrade my CPU on a Warpspeedinc MOBO, and truly I've looked everywhere and nothing, The data I have is the following:
Program: eSupport.com BIOS Agent Version 3.45
BIOS Date: 03/16/99
BIOS Type: Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG
BIOS ID: 03/16/1999-i440BX-ITE867-2A69KU99C
OEM Sign-On: BX-ATX-1 9313-002 [MARCH 16, 99]
Chipset: Intel 440BX/ZX rev 3
Superio: Unknown
OS: Win98
CPU: Pentium II 233 Mhz MAX: 400 Mhz
BIOS ROM In Socket: Yes
BIOS ROM Size: 256K
Memory Installed: 352 MB
Memory Maximum: Unknown
Memory Slot 01: 64 MB
Memory Slot 02: 32 MB
Memory Slot 03: 256 MB
Memory Slot 04: 0 MB
MotherBoard Model: U851
Manufacturer: warpspeed
I'd like to point out that I was able (through the bios Front Side Bus frequency menu) to change the cpu Frequency to 291 MH but I really need help with this, I want to be sure That if I get a newer p2 cpu it will work. For anyone..... your help, no matter how small is GREATLY APPRECIATED THANKS... THANKS.... THANKS.... Smile

please get uniflash and make a backup of your bios. It is the last known version and we don't have it on file yet.
http://www.rainbow-software.org/programs.html#UniFlash
Next, are there any CPU set jumpers at all on this board? Given the fact you can set the FSB in bios makes me think it's a jumper-less board.
A good detailed photo of the board might help too, we can compare it with known boards from large manufacturers and see if they simply relabeled one of those.
Email both backup file and photos to edwin@wimsbios.com

I sure definitely will do what you ask me to;
There are 3 groups of jumpers, I'll get the pictures for you. Also the bios allowed me to change the CPU multiplier BUT looks like the cpu I have right now is Multiplier locked. The highest FSB frequency available is 83 MH and the Multiplier is set to 3.5 as default, sure you can scroll that menu all the way to 5 but as soon as you change it to 4 the CPU becomes really unstable and doesn't even let you install the operating system, further more if you go higher the computer won't even BOOT at all.
I'll send you the data ASAP.
and Thanks for the reply......

That 233 cannot be overclocked very much. Multipliers are hardware locked inside the CPU. What I'm trying to find out is to what multiplier support goes as to make an estimate of what the maximum CPU is you can use in this thing, 450MHz or a bit more (usually 600MHz on 440BX chipset boards). You may have to swap out the memory too, I suspect that is still PC66 whereas a 100MHz FSB CPU needs PC100 memory sticks.
You're welcome, you have got a running U851 from which we may be able to get some info finally on this board.

Test the multiplier settings. If the CPU allows using a lower multiplier then 3.5 you might raise the FSB. With PC-100 (or better) RAM you might want to try 100 MHz FSB with a 2.5 multiplier.
With a Bios of 1999 every available Pentium 2 and Celeron with Mendocino core should work. Even the Katmai Pentium III should work, maybe except the power-hungry 600 MHz version.

Thanks Denniss
I'll also try that, Hopefully it'll work, I also visited e-support page, and used their scanner and it tells me that my MOBO is a good candidate for one of their upgrades, But before updating the BIOS, I'm convinced, I need to know more about this MOBO.
Cheers

we can patch support for several things into that bios. If you want to go the esupport route, please let us know what bios they gave you.

the intel bx/zx chipset is able to run 66/100mhz fsb. your cpu is made for 66mhz fsb and the mainboard manufacturer chose not to offer 100mhz fsb for 66mhz models (what a surprise ;)).
you can:
- modify your current cpu for 100mhz operation (search for B21, Slot1 and 100MHz with your fav. internet search engine)
- get another cpu which runs at 100mhz
if you could supply a photo of the voltage regulator section of the board, i could tell you if you could run a - let's say - celeron coppermine 566@850 or 600@900 on a slot1->socket370 adaptor.

Not that it'd be much of a speed improvement, but the OP could probably
also run a slot1 to 370 convertor & bang a 533 celeron into it, thier as
cheap as chips, still only 66fsb though...
This board is a 1st for me, I've not yet seen a BX chipset board that
didn't support 100fsb from the factory, ZX yeah, but BX, hell most
decent BX boards even support 133...

is that the maximum FSB Frequency provided by the BIOS on this board is 83MHZ , and really I don't know if getting an update BIOS for this board will bring that frequency to 100MHZ (I wish it does , and If I do update the BIOS I really hope so), even maybe to 133MHZ, I'll also send you some pictures of my board cp
and thanks edwin, I look forward to read from you.....

did you try running a 100MHz FSB cpu in the board or are you still stuck at the 66MHz Pentium II model? the bios will not show anything above 83MHz as long as it detects a 66MHz FSB cpu. And as long as pin B21 is pulled LOW there's 66MHz FSB!
The Intel ZX also supports 100MHz FSB out of the box. The only two differences between the BX and the ZX are:
1. ZX only has 4 addressable RAM rows (resulting in 2 DIMM slots) whereas the BX has 8 (4 DIMM slots)
2. ZX only has support for 4 PCI busmaster slots whereas the BX supports 5.
According to the datasheet the ZX only supports a total of 256MB RAM but several sources (including mainboard manufacturers) have proven that they also work with 2x256MB=512MB.
that's it. nothing more, nothing less.
